An Armed Police Force team seized illegal clothes worth Rs 1.2 million from a truck loaded with paddy at Birgunj sub-metropolis, today.

The truck was heading towards Kathmandu from India through the Integrated Check Post at Birgunj.

The truck with Indian number plate-BR 06 JB 4156 was carrying the customs evaded materials.

Acting on a tip-off, the APF team took the truck under control when the truck had cleared the security check at the ICP near the dry port of Birgunj.

The police team also arrested the driver Sunil Yadav, an Indian national. According to APF Number 13 Battalion, Parsa, shirting and suiting, hurtha-suruwal, saree, lehenga, t-shirt, pants, among other customs evaded clothes were seized.

Police said that the truck and its driver along with the seized materials had been sent to Pathliya-based Revenue Investigation Office for further investigation.

Police said that the truck belonging to Tirupati Food and Suppliers operated by Dipendra Prasad Kalawar was carrying illegal clothes hidden in the paddy sacks. Police further added that further investigation into the case was under way.

According to Revenue Investigation Office, Pathlaiya, the seized goods are worth more than one crore rupees.
