BAJURA, AUGUST 18

A house has been constructed for the family of Saure Ukheda of Bajura's Badimalika Municipality.

According to ward member Tulasi Nath, besides the house, food, utensils and clothes have also been provided to the family.

Earlier, a news story about the plight of Ukheda's family had been published in The Himalayan Times. The house construction for the family had started after the publication of the news story.

Badimalika Media House had coordinated, collaborated and assisted in the construction of the house.

As learnt, Amer Chhetri (a resident of Kathmandu, now living in America), famous mountaineer Jangbu Sherpa, foreign national Margarita Parrish Serrano, actor Amrit Dhungana, Bhutanese citizen Jamuna Moktan, Birabal KC (a current resident of Japan) and Sita KC (a resident of Kathmandu) had provided assistance for Ukheda's family. Over Rs 100,000 is said to have been spent on house construction and food assistance.

"Besides a house for us to live, we have also got food and other assistance. We are glad and indebted for all the support," said Ukheda's wife Bisna, thanking the charitable hands. After 20 years' long stay in India in the course of employment, Ukheda had returned home to Badimalika-4, Rila, with his family about two months ago. Though he was somehow feeding his family in India, he had decided to return to Nepal after losing a leg and an eye in the line of duty as a watchman. Ukheda's family had been staying in a neighbour's cowshed for the last two months ever since their return to the homeland as there was no trace of their house. Due to poor financial condition, Ukheda hasn't been able to extract the steel implanted in his leg thus far.

While his eldest son went missing, the second son died for want of medicine and three daughters were married while in India itself, Ukheda, 78, finally decided to return to his home country with his wife, aged 72, and youngest son, aged 15, after he could no longer work due to his deteriorating physical condition.
