BARDIYA, MARCH 17

One more woman died after a tiger attacked her at Thakurbaba Municipality in Bardiya last night.

The deceased has been identified as Dalli Rawat, 55, of the municipality. Police said that the wild cat attacked Rawat when she and three other women were collecting firewood in Bardiya National Park at 3:00pm yesterday.

A Nepali Army and police team deployed from Baganaha Area Police Office found the body. According to the national park, the woman's body was recovered at 5:00pm the same day when the security team searched the site after receiving information about the incident.

Assistant Conservation Officer Asim Kumar Thapa said that the body was half-eaten.

Similarly, Rina Sunuwar, 27, of Madhuban Municipality was also killed by the wild cat on March 10 while collecting fodder in the community forest of the municipality.

Likewise, Lal Bahadur Tharu, 65, of Rajapur Municipality, Bardiya, died after the tiger attacked him when he was grazing his buffalo in the community forest on March 1.

Locals said they were afraid as the tiger has attacked people one after another in the locality. Ten persons have already lost their lives to tiger attacks this year.

Meanwhile, the national park and division forest office urged people not to go to the jungle and not to graze domestic animals. The office said the number of attacks had increased after people ignored the notice issued by the authority concerned.
